Spaying and Neutering
There are many misconceptions that people have regarding spaying and neutering their companions. Many of these ideas are incorrect. Spaying and neutering your companion animals actually has many postive health benefits for the individual animal as well as the family.
Personally we strongly beleive that if an animal is truly only going to be a part of your family and never shown or bred that they should be spayed or neutered.
"This is a cause very dear to our hearts as we not only work with and have IGs as a part of our family but we also have rescues that came from kill shelters that ended up there because individuals who had unplanned offspring due to not spaying and neutering. They either could not or did not try to find those offspring homes and they ended up in the kill shelters and would have been euthanized if they were not adopted.
For us one healthy animal being euthanized is too many and irresponsible. These animals are put in our trust and care and we have to ensure we give them responsible care just as we would our children."
Spaying and neutering is not only beneficial to the individual animal, and the family but it also is vital so that we do not contribute to the already overcrowed and sad story of unwanted or unplanned offspring that end up in shelters most who never get a chance at life or lives are cut short way before their time.
While some will argue, since we are so pro spay/neuter why breed. We feel and there is a place and reason for those who responsibly show and breed pure breed dogs. The purpose of pure breed dogs was to carry on the strong traits of any particular breed and for those who truly love certain breed because of those characteristics to be able to continue to have those dogs in their homes.
There are people that cherish a certain breed and want that breed and no matter what would not settle for a rescue or mixed breed and that is understandable. We love IGs and they will most likely always be a part of our family, but we also love all animals and that is why while we show and raise IGs because we love the breed, we also are very active and commited to helping the mixed breeds also and have rescues as a part of our family along with the IGs.
The statistics show that aproximately 75-85% of dogs that are brought into the kill shelters and non kill shelters are not pure breed dogs but rather dogs that are mixed breeds, dogs that were mostly not intentionally bred but rather either born out of ignorance or irresponsiblity. Granted the numbers are low but, some of the mixed breeds that come into the shelters are from one pure breed parent of someone who did not take the time to have their companion spayed/neutered and in turn an accidental litter was born.
This is why puppies and dogs that are adopted from MOSA come with a spay neuter contract to better ensure both that we or our dogs are not responsible for adding to the unplanned population of animals that end up euthanized and to help better protect the health of each and every one of our babies in the future and that of the breed to try and minimize mis-breeding.
"Having a litter of Puppies may look easy but there honestly is a lot the families do not see that goes into it to get a puppy like you adopt from MOSA. It is a lot of time, planning, money, and unending care to do it right and for those who truly love and care for their IGs or any animal for that matter. It does not end with just putting 2 dogs together."
We hope that no matter where you adopt your IG from even if it is from someone who does not require that it be spayed and neutered that you will have it done. This will give you peace of mind both for the health of your IG and that there will be no unplanned puppies produced.
We do not need more laws prohibiting breeding, there are enough already to protect the animals, they just need to be followed. We need more responsible individuals both breeders and those who adopt the dogs alike. We need more awarness on spaying/neutering and education of the public on this. This is why we put the pages we do on our website we want to help give as much knowledge to those who visit our site as possible whether you adopt from us or not.
Whether you are one of our extended families or not please feel free to contact us if you have any questions we will do our best to answer or find one for you.
"Our goal is to help the families and the dogs we all love, no matter the breed."
