Information & Care for your IG
Our goal is to ensure a successful placement, as well to help you and your IG ('s) have a happy life together. We take the placement of MOSA Italian greyhounds seriously and want the best for our families and their new family member.
The information and links we provide are geared to make life as happy as possible for all and are ones that we feel may be of interest to you and may find helpful or a source of information in caring for your IG's health and well being.
(Note; When you click on a link a new window will open in your browser you will not leave our site.)
Health and Nutrition
The health of your IG is important in every aspect of it's well being, behavior, training, and overall health. Improper care can not only lead to poor health and shortened lifespan of your companion it also affects his desire and willingness to learn. If a dog is sick, just as with us people it becomes less likely to be able to focus and learn.
We believe strongly that prevention is the best policy too follow but we realize there are times prevention can not be achieved due to circumstances beyond our control. The links below are to help aid you as much as possible in preventative care as well in caring for your IG in unforeseen circumstance.
There are also links just for fun, that just have things to care for and spoil your IG!
Health, Nutrition, & Medications:
Sea Kelp is a natural supplement that is a great additive for your IG. It aids in their overall health from the inside out. We mix it in our dogs food daily. It is good not only for animals but humans also and there are supplements on the pages for humans as well. We have had great success with Sea kelp.
Kelp Products of Florida: They have natural kelp products for your IG as well humans. There are testimonials on the site..
Nature's Farmacy: They have Sea Kelp for both Humans and Animals as well as many other supplies for your IG.
1800 Pet Meds: A great site that has many medications from flea and worming to anxiety for your pet as well as a pet education to help with different issues.
Pet Education .com: Another great site by Foster & Smith for all types of pets that deals with many issues and problems including medications, behavioral issues, and many more. They also have a section on plants around your yard and home that are toxic to your pets.
PetsMart: Everyone knows PetsMart they have products and services for all pets and often offer great bargains and discounts for those who have their Pets Perk Card. It has saved us money by signing up for their Pet Perks program and it's free!
Training & Behavioral Help
We believe and have experienced first hand the wonders of proper socialization and behavioral training. With the strong belief that your animal companions should be a part of your home and family, our preferred/primary method of training that we use is positive reinforcement and consistency. IG's are much like children in many respects and respond very positively to "Positive reinforcement" rather than punishment.
One key to always remember is it is much easier and better to begin training your dog/puppy the way that you expect them to behave from the very beginning than it is to allow them to behave one way and then later have to go back and re-train or modify a behavior that you allowed. It sends conflicting messages to your IG and ends up in frustration for both you and your companion.
It can turn what should be a happy and enjoyable time, that could have been much easier into a time that isn't so fun. This is what leads to or is the cause of many disrupted placement/adoptions because the family is frustrated with a situation that they created by accident.
Our goal is to avoid this and make your time with your companion successful and a happy time!
While we encourage our families to contact us with any and all questions or concerns regardless of what they may be, we want to offer you guidance and other possible opinions that you may find helpful.
Websites:
My husband and I both growing up with many dogs all of our lives already used a lot of the same methods of training that Cesar Milan used before he even had his show. We continue to use many of the same methods today. We believe in his training and his fight for animals so we are happy to provide this link. He shares many different things on his site and it is worth checking out.
Books:
The Italian Greyhound, 21st Century: By Lillian S. Barber
Little Dogs: Training your Pint-sized Companion: By Deborah Wood
Training Your Dog For Life; By Sheila Webster Boneham, PH. D.
This page will constantly be updated with informative links and information that we feel may be useful to the IG families, so check back often. We hope to provide you with information that allows you to educate yourself on the care and living with your IG kids.
